Espace Fun challenges us to have a go at stand-up paddle-boarding (SUP), an increasingly popular water sport, on the Plate-Taille Lake at the Eau d’Heure Lakes. It couldn’t be easier, even for a beginner: ‘simply’ stand up on a board and move forward using a paddle. A great way to discover the area around the dam.

One of the best stand-up paddle-boarding spots in Belgium

The advantage of the Eau d’Heure Lakes is that you’re on a body of water with a wide panoramic view, unlike a canal or a smaller lake, where most people practise this sport in Belgium. You can venture to different sections of the lake here.

But what does stand-up paddle-boarding involve? You take a board that’s a little longer than a standard surfboard, place it on the water, hop on, stand up and move forward using a paddle.

You need to find your balance in the beginning, but it doesn't take long. The trickiest part is moving the paddle – strongly enough to move you forward, but not so strongly as to end up in the water. In short, it’s pretty enjoyable!

Beach, walks and adventures around the nautical club

The other advantage of SUP at the Plate-Taille Lake is really the club setting. You can rent equipment from Espace Fun, an unusual place that reminds you of being on holiday.

Espace Fun offers fine sand, a bar beneath a large North African tent, deckchairs and the nautical club. You can usually hire paddle boards for an hour and take a trip out on the water and have some fun with friends or family.

This water sport can be quite relaxing, as long as you don’t have a friend who likes to knock you into the water.

You can even go with a school group or on a company outing.

An ideal location for SUP between Namur, Brussels and Mons

This nautical club is really well located, south of Namur, Brussels and Mons. Another advantage? Despite the proximity to these cities, you still soon appreciate the change of scenery. You’re looking at one of the largest bodies of water in Belgium.

Try the aquatic SUP outing every Friday evening from May. Essentially, you go on a one-hour outing to explore the lake. It’s very nice to move at your own pace, with the water providing a certain peace and serenity.

In season, you can even admire the sunset on this unique excursion. What are you waiting for?
